Do you want an art class that is fun and exploratory, and for the Artsy-Smartsy?

* Stormy Art Studio is a home based art adventure for children and adults. Participants of all ages develop original artwork while receiving age appropriate one on one instruction. You will be encouraged to employ a variety of simple materials while also informing your creative processes with fun, inspiring and intriguing art history and art science. All the while, you'll be enhancing original thinking! Here in the small studio, you will be learning at your own pace and developing skills in a safe, relaxed and encouraging environment.

All classes are taught by Darlene Morrison, a 2016 Dean's List graduate of NSCAD University. Darlene has been teaching art since 1983.

Located in Dartmouth,, Stormy Art Studio is an easy location to reach from Halifax, Bedford, Sackville, Fall River, Enfield and beyond.

While creating the above 3D collage, students at Holland Road School gained an understanding of the need for beach conservation. In 2006 and '07, Darlene taught as part of their art program for a successful Spring Art Fair.

Art Skills Have a Rich History and the Ability to Inform All Other Professions.

Who might have done the first drawing? Try your hand at some Neanderthal inspired artwork and learn how art has changed and stayed the same overtime. Develop an understanding of the role art has played in the past. What about today?
Make up your own creative art tools, discover colour mixing magic, and learn about the oldest known chemistry lab. Yup... they were making paint!
Learn about those artsy-smartsy pioneers whose work still educates us today, such as Leonardo De Vinci and Angelique Marguerite Le Boursier du Coudray. Leo was an architect, painter, draughtsman, engineer, scientist, sculptor and theorist, whose notebooks are bursting with studies of astronomy, anatomy, botany, paleontology and cartography; Angelique created fabric wombs as a teaching tool for childbirth, She was a midwife and early fibre artist.
Today, some surgeons do hand drawn images of their work not using Illustrator but pencil and paper.

These important years are a time of great cognitive, emotional and social development and art can play a vital role.

Fun Art Adventures for the Artsy- Smartsy - Child, Teen or Adult

Paint, draw, sew, sculpt, mold, collage... and explore your way with mixed media works that employ found, recycled and new materials ie; wire, plasticene, tempera, watercolour, acrylic, pencil, charcoal, conte, chalk, crayon and chalk and oil pastels, paper... Painting or drawing with pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen, ink and simple mark making tools can be important studies or they become finished, artworks!
All classes are 1.5 to 2 hours in duration and are held in and out of doors. They can be adjusted to most ages and stages. Commit to four studio sessions and choose your space.

A) Private Lessons for all ages: $ 200.00 (50.00 x4)

B) Semi-Private Lessons: Bring a friend and pay just $140.00 each. ( 35 x4)

C) Group of Friends: Gather three friends and pay just $120.00 per student for four mornings or four afternoon studio sessions. You pick the date based on studio availability. Choose your week or come weekly!

D) Open Studio : Gather four to six friends and enjoy some fun art making. Pay $100.00 per person for four classes.

E) Learn window painting! I painted business windows with seasonal themes for 22 years and would love to pass along my knowledge to you. A three hour private lesson is $150.00.

F) Christmas Ornament Painting: Bring four friends and paint glass and plastic sphere ornaments. All supplies and instruction provided. Cost is $40.00 per person. Four ornaments of various sizes, ie: small, medium and large ( roughly three inch bulb). They make great gifts! Must supply your own take home container!

G) Seniors Art Fun! Plan a unique and fun event for people who have seen and done it all. haha. Have great fun painting, working with plasticene and play dough, chalk and/or drawing. No experience necessary for those who have been on this planet long enough to know what real fun is.

Before long, you might even recognize that your confidence is improving through art exploration.

Learn about art movements and their artists... gain an understanding of colour theory. Simplicity is the key and by learning colour basics, you can reduce the number of paint tubes you might currently have or be thinking you need to purchase.

Studio Sessions for Adults... Yup You!

Private Studio Lesson for Adults - Lessons that will get you started and beyond. Learn colour mixing and what hues to purchase that offer you a full range of colours without needing to buy the store.

Learn composition, painting techniques and something about art history that will not only inform your work but really fascinate you. And we're not limited to painting, though becoming a more confident painter is our goal. Through other art processes such as building tiny sculptures, developing drawing skills, working with small pieces of wood, plasticine and other mixed media, you will have the opportunity to explore your creative side in ways you might not have before.

If you have a time period that works best for you, reach out with some options and we'll set something up.

Cost for private classes is $50:00 for 2 hours. Sign up for four weeks and pay just $200.00 for four scheduled weeks; mornings, daytimes or weeknights. You chose your time based on studio availability. Enjoy learning about the art process in a cozy cabin home-studio environment.

A Paint Date At Your Location: Plan a "Paint Date" for ten or more participants. Cost is $65:00 per participant. Painting supplies included. You provide the refreshments. Location requires a nearby sink and hot water for clean up. All fees must be paid three weeks in advance of event. Choose a beach scene, winter, summer or abstract.

Yup, I offer Fun Art Adventure Kitchen Party - Experience a "Paint Date" at Stormy Art Studio for four to six teen and/or adult participants. Experience lots of laughs while learning some basic painting skills! Cost per participant is $ 50.00. Time is three hours; Morning, daytime, evening or weekend. Find your friends and come on over!
